PCLC Primary Schools and STEM Point Inspire Young Mathematicians

Pupils from Pear Tree Mead Academy, Potter Street Academy, Purford Green Primary and The Downs Primary School recently enjoyed an exciting and engaging Practical Maths Day, delivered in partnership with STEM Point, designed to bring mathematics to life through hands-on learning, teamwork and problem-solving challenges.

The event provided children with a range of interactive activities that encouraged them to explore mathematical concepts in a fun and meaningful way. Through practical investigations, puzzles and collaborative challenges, pupils were able to develop their reasoning skills, apply their mathematical knowledge in real life contexts and discover how maths can be both enjoyable and inspiring.

Throughout the day, children worked together to tackle problems, think creatively and persevere when faced with challenges. The activities were carefully designed to build confidence and develop resilience, helping pupils to see themselves as successful learners and problem solvers.

PCLC primary schools are committed to providing rich learning experiences that extend beyond the classroom and help every child achieve their full potential. Working alongside STEM Point enabled pupils to engage with mathematics in a different way, demonstrating how the subject underpins many aspects of everyday life and future careers.

Emma Bloomfield, Deputy CEO and Executive Head of Primaries at PCLC, said:

"We are delighted to have partnered with STEM Point to provide this fantastic opportunity for our pupils. The day was filled with enthusiasm, curiosity and collaboration as children explored mathematical challenges in practical and engaging ways. Experiences such as these help develop not only mathematical understanding but also the confidence, resilience and problem solving skills that will support children throughout their education and beyond."

A Year 5 pupil said:

I" really enjoyed solving the challenges because they made us think in different ways. My favourite activity was working as a team to solve the puzzles, and it showed me that maths can be fun and exciting."

The Practical Maths Day was a great success, with pupils leaving inspired, motivated and excited about mathematics. By creating opportunities for children to experience maths beyond the classroom, PCLC and STEM Point are helping to nurture the next generation of confident learners, innovators and problem solvers.
